What is your Style?

My style of photography is simple, natural and fun.  I don’t usie a lot of props, special effects or editing techniques. Natural light and off camera flash are my most popular lighting situations, studio lights are used in the studio though. Candid, narutal moments are my favorite, that is when a memory is really captured.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?

I do not photograph more than one wedding per weekend. However, I do photograph multiple portrait sessions and smaller events in a weekend/day.

Do you charge hourly or full day?

For weddings and events I have both hourly and all day rates.  Portrait sessions are based on the sitting type chosen.

Do you charge for travel?

Only for weddings 60+ miles outside Portland, MI. Please contact me to discuss this.

Can I use a photo from your blog as my Facebook/MySpace/LinkedIn/Other Social Media Profile?

Of course.  I can supply you with low resolution, watermarked images to use online. Please do not crop out my logo, or alter the image in anyway.

How many photographers do you work with?

Myself and an assistant (depending on photography session).

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?

I personally photograph every event I book.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?

Yes, for weddings a meal break and seating at the reception is required for me and my assistant. It’s a long day and I don’t photograph during dinner. Photographs of people eating are not appealing.

Does the Client need to make a shot list for a wedding or an event?

If you want to that is fine, but it is not required.  I do meet with clients twice before a wedding so a lot of this is already established in our conversations. It is helpful to have a list of family members that you want photographed.  Also I will give you a generic shot list of images I generally take at weddings.

Do you shoot with digital or film?

What equipment do you use?

Nikon D700, Nikon Speedlights and a variety of lenses.

Can you remove blemishes?

I do basic blemish retouching on all my photos. If you’d like more intensive Photoshop work done, please contact me for more details.

Can I get a disk of my images?

Yes, all weddings have options to purchase a CD of high resolution images. Portrait sessions have the option to add on a CD for an additional cost after a qualifying print order is placed.

Can I get all the RAW files from my shoot?

Unfortunately I do not release the images in RAW file format. The file are very large and can only be opened in Photoshop and other photo editing programs. Also the RAW files are my version of negatives. Only I hold the copyright to the original, unedited images right out of the camera.

I like to use Photoshop, can I edit my own images?

I really prefer if you are hiring me for a creative talent that I do the editing myself. After all, it’s what you’re paying for, let me do the work! After edited images are delivered, I ask that you not alter them in any way.

How many images do we get?

This varies greatly based on the event or portrait session.  For weddings I average between 400-600 images. Portrait sessions are between 15-100.

Whats should we wear?

I always recommend to wear something that is you, you will look more comfortable and natural.  Please do make sure things fit properly.   Please do not wear all the same color. Family portraits with everyone dressed in white is very dated.

What do your wedding packages include?

All wedding packages include myself photographing the event, online client proofing in a password protected gallery.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?

4-6 weeks for weddings, portrait and other events are usually 4 weeks.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?

In an online gallery.  Printed proofs are available with some portrait sessions.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?

Yes. You can purchase reproduction rights. This is not a copyright. It’s just a release to make copies for personal use. Copyright allows me to use the images on my website, blog and sample albums to show future clients.

When is payment due?

The sitting/ session fee is due at the time of your photos.  Payment for prints are due when the print order is finished and I contact you wiht the total.

Cash or Check (made out the Sara J. Gross Photography)

All returned checks will encure a $10 fee in addition to the original amount owed.

How do I choose the images that will be in my proofbook?

If you are logged into the website you can rate and comment on photos
or save them to your "Lightbox".

Save the images you want printed in your proofbook to your Lightbox. If you do this and want to the images in a specific order then make sure you change the "sort order" to Custom and save the order you want the photos. Click the Share button to giv eme access to view your lightbox, otherwise I cannot see it.

Another option is rating the images you would like printed in your proofbook, then sending me an e-mail indicating that the rated images are the ones you want in your proofbook.

Lastly simply list the image numbers in an e-mail (sjgphoto@gmail.com).  The images numbers are located to the left of the large image, using the last three digits of the filename SJG_20110101_001.

By default images will be in numeric order in the proofbook.

If you want extra proofs they are $.40 each image.

What are Image numbers (filenames)?

Image numbers are specific filenames that I assign each image.  The numbers look like this SJG_20110101_001. The images numbers are located underneath the thumbnail images or to the left of the large image.  The last three digits of the number are sufficient for most orders.
